Netflix subscription plans and prices in Nigeria (2026): what each tier costs and every way to pay

A Netflix subscription in Nigeria costs between ₦2,500 and ₦8,500 a month right now, across four plans — Mobile, Basic, Standard and Premium. Those are the prices on Netflix's own Nigeria page, unchanged since the last increase on July 4, 2025 and still correct as of August 30, 2026. What follows is what each plan actually gets you, the payment methods that work from a Nigerian bank account, and the gift-card rule that catches people out.

The four Netflix plans in Nigeria and what each one costs

Netflix sells four plans here: Mobile at ₦2,500, Basic at ₦4,000, Standard at ₦6,500 and Premium at ₦8,500 per month. What separates them is picture quality, how many screens can watch at the same time, and how many devices can hold downloads — Netflix's Nigeria plans page lists it line by line, and the table below is that page flattened into one view (prices checked August 30, 2026).

Mobile is the cheap way in: one phone or tablet at 480p, and Netflix states that casting or mirroring to a TV is not supported on it — the picture never leaves the small screen. Basic opens up any single device, television included, at 720p. Standard is the household plan: full HD on two screens at once, which covers a couple or a small family without scheduling arguments. Premium is the 4K tier — Ultra HD with HDR, four simultaneous screens, downloads on six devices, and spatial audio.

Two honest footnotes. First, the cheaper "Standard with ads" plan Netflix sells in some countries is not part of the Nigerian lineup — the Nigeria page lists these four plans and no ads tier, so ₦2,500 Mobile is the genuine floor here. Second, Netflix notes that members may be charged taxes depending on their location, so the amount that leaves your account can land slightly above the sticker figure.

How to pay for Netflix from Nigeria

An ordinary naira debit card pays for Netflix Nigeria directly. Nigerian banks restored international card payments in July 2025 after a suspension of more than three years, as CNBC Africa reported at the time, and the service has been running since. The banks came back with caps: roughly $1,000 a quarter at GT Bank and around $500 a month at Stanbic IBTC, First Bank and Wema, per Forbes Africa. A Netflix Nigeria subscription sits far inside those limits. ₦2,500 to ₦8,500 works out at about $2 to $6.50 at the official rate of ₦1,341.66/$1 recorded on August 28, 2026 (TechEconomy).

On Netflix's side, its payment-methods page lists Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards that are enabled for recurring e-commerce, prepaid cards carrying those logos, and virtual cards in select markets — with the note that you may need to enable your card for international transactions. Verve cards are absent from that list, which is the practical reason a Verve-only account hits a wall.

When a payment fails, the cause is almost always one of two things. The card has never been switched on for international or recurring online use — fixed in the bank's app or with one call — or the month's bank cap is already spent, which a card change or the next reset solves. Billing is monthly, charged in naira, and there are no cancellation fees.

What a Netflix gift card does — and the currency rule that decides everything

A Netflix gift card is prepaid Netflix credit: redeem it and the balance sits on the account, paying for the plan until it runs out. Netflix's gift-card help page says the cards do not expire — printed on the back of each card — and that they are non-refundable.

Then the rule that decides everything here. A gift card stays usable, in Netflix's words, "as long as the gift card is in the same currency as your Netflix bill"— and a Nigerian account's bill arrives in naira. The Nigeria version of that page adds the second fact flatly: Netflix gift cards are not currently sold in the country. The official sellers Netflix lists are American — Amazon.com, Walmart.com and Giftcards.com online, plus Walmart, Kroger and Dollar General stores. Put the two together and the conclusion is ours but unavoidable: a dollar Netflix card cannot pay for a naira-billed account.

So if a relative abroad sends you one, or you pick one up online, it will not fund your Netflix here. What the card can do is hold its value — it never expires — and in Nigeria its practical value is cash: sell it for naira, then pay for the plan with your naira card. Will Netflix prices rise again in Nigeria?

Nothing has been announced — as of August 30, 2026 the July 2025 prices still stand, and Netflix has said nothing about a Nigeria change this year. But the pattern says another round is a matter of when, not if. The July 2025 increase was the third in just over a year, after rises in April and July 2024: Premium moved from ₦7,000 to ₦8,500 (up 21.4%), Standard from ₦5,500 to ₦6,500, Basic from ₦3,500 to ₦4,000 and Mobile from ₦2,200 to ₦2,500, as The Whistler documented at the time.

The most recent move came elsewhere: on March 26, 2026 Netflix raised its American prices again — Standard with ads to $8.99 (from $7.99), Standard to $19.99 (from $17.99) and Premium to $26.99 (from $24.99), per FandomWire's report — with no commitment about other regions. Nigeria's past hikes tracked local inflation and a sliding naira, and the currency has been steadier lately: ₦1,341.66/$1 officially against about ₦1,410 on the parallel market on August 28, 2026, with external reserves at an 18-year high of $53.34 billion (TechEconomy). Calmer foreign exchange removes one pressure, but the decision sits with Netflix — and when it moves, this page's figures move with it.

The short version: four plans, ₦2,500 to ₦8,500, payable with the naira card already in your wallet — and a dollar Netflix card, should one ever reach you, is not a subscription here, but it is money. Figure first, code after.
