How to sell a Walmart gift card for cash in Nigeria: plastic or eGift, what a $100 pays, and the safe order to sell in

A Walmart gift card is two numbers and nothing more: a 16-digit card number and a 4-digit PIN. Whoever can read both can spend the card. Sell one this month and a $100 US card earns ₦52,000 for the sealed card — with the naira figure agreed in writing before either number moves. Both forms of the card — rack plastic and the e-mailed eGift — sell through the same route, and one free check, safe only in your own hands, confirms the card is good before any figure is typed.

The two cards that carry the Walmart name

Walmart puts its name on two different instruments, and only one of them is this guide's card. The store gift card — rack plastic and the e-mailed eGift — spends at Walmart and Sam's Club tills across the US and Puerto Rico, in the app, and on the two websites. That is the card this guide sells, and the card the published board prices. The Walmart Visa Gift Card is a separate product issued by Green Dot Bank: it spends anywhere Visa debit works across the 50 states and DC, trades in its own market, and is priced individually — so say plainly in chat if that is what you hold.

The store card comes in the two forms this guide covers. Plastic is activated at a US register and hides its code behind a scratch panel. The eGift arrives by email — Walmart allows up to 48 hours for delivery — and spends from a phone screen or a printout at the till. Neither form expires and no fees nibble at the balance, so a held card keeps its face while you decide. Both sell here: sealed plastic prices off the board, and an eGift code prices in chat, with the delivery email standing in for the receipt. Nothing about either form reaches Nigeria, though. Walmart runs no stores here; its site does not deliver here. The card's spending life is American, so for a holder in Lagos or Kano the naira exit is a sale.

The two-minute check you can run yourself

Walmart is one of ten brands on our board whose balance page needs no sign-in, and the inquiry moves nothing on the card. The page — walmart.com/account/giftcards/balance — asks for the card number and PIN, then reads the balance where it sits. Our balance-check directory keeps that official page among its ten safe checkers.

Run it before you message anyone, and what it catches costs you nothing: a gift the giver already spent, a digit misread from a worn panel, or a card drained on the rack before it ever reached you. Each is better found in your own hands than inside a buyer's chat. If the card shows no PIN at all, the online check is out — the phone number printed on the card's back does the same job.

Hold on to one fact, though: the same two numbers that check the card also spend it, because walmart.com's checkout asks for exactly those digits. That is why the check belongs on walmart.com and nowhere else, typed by you. A lookalike page is just a collection box. And it is why a stranger who needs your numbers "to confirm the card" is offering no confirmation: on this brand the numbers are the card. Steam and Google Play cards allow no safe look at all — on those two, a typed code is value already handed over — so a Walmart holder has a head start those sellers never get. Use it.

This month's price for a Walmart card

A sealed $100 Walmart card pays ₦52,000 on this month's board — ₦520 per dollar, and the line does not move between $10 and $500. eGift codes are quoted per card in chat: e-mailed codes move through a thinner resale channel, and the delivery email is the code's papers. Why not Apple money? A Walmart card is grocery-and-household money — nearly anyone in America can spend it, but it moves in smaller, slower baskets than gaming or App Store codes, and the per-dollar line reflects that pace. That is counter experience, nothing more.

The naira side moves too. Telegraph's market coverage put the official NFEM reading at ₦1,321.68 per dollar on September 7, and Vanguard's daily tracker showed parallel-market dollars at ₦1,395 to buy and ₦1,405 to sell on September 8 — when the naira strengthens, each monthly refresh trims what a dollar card pays. The daylight between the official figure and your card rate is the resale market's costs and risks made visible — no separate charge hides in it. The Walmart rate table carries that board line by face value, and the Walmart calculator puts a figure on the exact amount you hold.

What changes hands, and when

The two numbers are the last thing to cross. Ahead of them runs one relay: the written quote, the card's proof, the transfer.

The opening message carries little: "Walmart", the face value, and the form — physical or eGift. You get back a typed naira figure, kept in the chat where no one can edit it. And because you ran the check yourself, you enter that chat already knowing the card is live: the conversation starts with homework done.

Nothing about the card moves until the figure has your yes. For plastic, you scratch the panel yourself once that figure stands, and photograph both sides of the card — the receipt rides along if it is still around. An eGift travels as its code plus the delivery email attached as provenance. They check the card at their end of the same chat you are reading, and when it clears, the transfer heads for your own-name account — Opay, Kuda, GTBank, whichever Nigerian bank you use. The wait is usually over before the chat has time to go quiet.

Check it yourself, then make us quote it

The balance page is yours before the trade is: run the card through it first. Then one message — "Walmart", the amount, the form — and the figure is yours in writing; the sixteen digits stay behind their scratch panel until you want that figure kept. Want to watch the route work first? A $10 card shows you everything a $100 one would.

What a scammer wants with your two numbers

Every trap built around this brand hunts the same prize — the 16 digits and the PIN — because on Walmart the numbers spend without the plastic. The scale of that hunt is documented: ProPublica's investigation found that "More than $1 billion in fraud losses were routed through the company's financial systems between 2013 and 2022". Gift-card schemes are a recurring vehicle in that account. Knowing the scripts below keeps your own card out of that statistic.

The seller-side trap is one line: "I need the card number to verify it first." The check above already answered it — you confirmed the card yourself, free, in two minutes, so what the stranger wants your digits for is the spending. Walmart's own fraud-alerts page states the rule plainly: "Never send money or provide pre-paid or gift card information to someone you do not know."

The second script never touches you as a seller — it touches the card before you ever held it. Card draining is the US racket where thieves copy a rack card's numbers, reseal the packaging, and — in ProPublica's words — "siphon off money before the owner can spend it"; between 2019 and 2023 Americans lost close to $1 billion to draining and other gift-card scams. An Arizona attorney-general case that ended in a prison sentence describes a crew "removing gift cards from Walmart, cloning the gift card numbers, and then placing the cards back on shelfs", and the same office tells shoppers to match the number on the card's back against the number on the receipt. If a card that reached you reads empty on the official checker, this is usually the story — and it is why the check comes before the sale, not after.

And one script uses Walmart as its stage rather than its target: an imposter — a fake relative, a fake tax officer, a fake utility — directs the victim to a specific store and a specific card. The US Federal Trade Commission's October 2024 alert describes the mechanics exactly: "The scammer will tell you which gift cards to buy and where to buy them" — and once the victim hands over the number, "your money is gone." If anyone ever asks to be paid with a Walmart card, the card is the payment they plan to steal.

One honest disclosure belongs here. Walmart's own gift-card terms prohibit reselling its cards — we link the terms page so you can read them; it guards itself against automated readers, so we describe rather than quote. The resale clause is store policy: breaking it carries no criminal penalty. The teeth are real, though — a card caught in a misuse dispute can lose its balance, and Walmart replaces nothing once the money moves. That risk sits with you until a counter you trust has paid — which is why selling in the right order matters more than selling at the best figure. The rest of the pattern book — bait figures, doctored alerts, recovery steps — lives in our scam checklist.

A Walmart card in Nigeria is grocery money with no grocery store; its whole value here is the sale. Run your own check, hold out for the written figure — and when someone wants the numbers before naming yours, the ask is the card itself, free of charge.

Questions, answered

How much is a $100 Walmart gift card in naira?

Right now a sealed $100 US Walmart card pays ₦52,000 — one flat line of ₦520 per dollar covering $10 to $500, so a bigger card changes the payout, not the per-dollar line. Selling an eGift code instead? That prices in chat, and the rate calculator here quotes any amount off the same board.

Can you redeem a Walmart gift card for cash?

Walmart never will — the card’s own terms bar cashing out except where a US state law forces a small-balance redemption, and none of that reaches Nigeria. The working route is a resale buyer: you sell the card itself for naira. Every “redeem for cash” search lands on that same answer — the brand pays out nothing, the market pays.

Can I sell a Walmart eGift card, or only plastic?

Both sell. Sealed plastic prices off the published board; an eGift code prices individually in chat, because a code that arrived by email resells through a thinner channel than sealed plastic. Keep the delivery email: it is what an eGift shows instead of a till receipt, and it never travels before a written figure you like.

How do I check my Walmart gift card balance before selling?

On Walmart’s own balance page — type the address yourself: walmart.com/account/giftcards/balance. You enter the 16-digit card number and the 4-digit PIN; no account is asked for, and the inquiry only reads the balance. If your card shows no PIN, the phone number on its back does the job. Our balance-check guide links it along with the other nineteen brands.

Where can I sell my Walmart gift card in Nigeria?

Any counter that publishes its board — this one included. Here the sale runs on WhatsApp: the written figure comes first, the twenty digits move only after you accept, and the transfer lands once the buyer’s checks pass, into your own bank account. Sizing up a different counter? Our guide to spotting a legit vendor lists the tells that end a bad buyer early.

Is a Walmart gift card the same as a Walmart Visa?

No — two products share the name. The store gift card spends only at Walmart and Sam’s Club in the US and Puerto Rico, online and in their app; the Walmart Visa is a prepaid card from Green Dot Bank that spends anywhere Visa debit works in the 50 states and DC. This site’s Walmart board prices the store card; if you hold the Visa version, say so in chat for a straight answer.
